HTY is able to pursue its mission only because of the support of individuals and groups throughout our community. Because our ticket prices and program fees are heavily subsidized (at $5.00 per student, our ticket prices are lower than any other professional children's theatre company in the United States), we meet approximately 49% of our budget from earned income.

Special Projects and Support
Honolulu Theatre for Youth’s reputation has brought substantial national and local support for both ongoing and special projects.

The State of Hawai‘i Department of Health (DOH)
The DOH has entered into a unique partnership with HTY in which the theatre delivers important health messages to students and families throughout the state by means of dramatic "playlets" performed before, during or after HTY productions.

The Cathedral Church of St. Andrews
HTY has become the resident theatre in Tenney Theatre, on the grounds of St. Andrew's, through the generosity of the church and our shared mission of outreach to the community.

The Kennedy Center Partners in Education
HTY has joined the Kennedy Center national network of performing arts organizations and schools delivering professional development for teachers in arts education.

The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA)
As Hawai`i's only professional theatre company, HTY has received annual support from the NEA since 1976. Additional Special Artistic Projects grants have supported the development of a play on Pacific navigation that toured to Saipan, Guam, Yap, Palau, Pohnpei, the Marshall Islands, and Australia, as well as the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, Seattle, and Dallas. The NEA supports the development of new work and professional development for teachers.
Hawai‘i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts
HTY has been a grantee of the HSFCA since its inception in 1966. Sustained support from the SFCA was crucial in the development of HTY from a community-based to a professional organization. The NEA's Poetry Out Loud initiative has been implemented for the HSFCA by HTY since 2006.
City and County of Honolulu
Through the Mayor's Office of Culture and the Arts, HTY receives grants to present free community performances throughout O‘ahu. Many people are able to see HTY performances with their families in their own neighborhoods.
The Hawai`i Community Foundation
Yearly grants to support capacity building, innovate programming, statewide literacy and other projects help HTY to fulfill its mission.
U.S. Department of Education
A Goals 2000 education grant funded a year-long "learning through drama" residency at Waiau Elementary School. (1998-1999)
Rockefeller Foundation
Grants have funded new works, including a play based on the folk culture of the Marshall Islands, which later toured the capital island and outlying atolls of the Republic of the Marshall Islands during 1996. Rockefeller funding also allowed HTY to represent US theatres for young audiences at the 1994 International Children's Theatre Festival in Okinawa.
The Pew Charitable Trusts
A two-year grant supported HTY's Playwright-in-Residence Y York for the 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 seasons. Past grants have supported projects such as work with Shakespearean artist Randall Duk Kim, nationally recognized actor who began his career with HTY (1993)
Theatre Communications Group (TCG)
TCG, the national service organization for the American professional theatre, has provided several Extended Collaboration Grants to HTY to enhance and develop projects such as our "hiphop" Othello with DJ JEDI and Paniolo Spurs with kumu hula Nona Beamer.
The Doris Duke Charitable Foundation
The New Generations Project (with TCG) encouraged and supported HTY in its partnerships and co-productions with other community organizations through a two-year grant. Developing partnerships has become an integral part of HTY's growth strategy.
